OUR PROGRAMS
Flagship Summer Camp: Soundscape Ecology
Students become field scientists as they:
-
Explore Southern California habitats
-
Learn to use tools (audio recorders, microphones, scientific equipment, etc) to capture environmental data
-
Record and analyze nature’s soundscapes
-
Develop scientific literacy skills
-
Create their own mini-documentaries combining science and art
Over the course of 12 exciting days, campers will explore a wide range of Southern California habitats within the Santa Ana River watershed—including lakes, riparian zones, wetlands, and coastal beaches. Each day offers a new adventure as students investigate the unique biodiversity of these ecosystems while learning how to collect scientific data through field observations, sound recording, and hands-on sampling.
Campers will work with real scientific tools to document their findings, with a special focus on capturing the natural soundscapes of each location. By the end of the program, participants will transform their recordings and research into a short student-led documentary and an original nature-inspired song—combining science, creativity, and storytelling in one unforgettable experience.
